About Sarah Frankfurt, MA LMFT
(She/Her/Hers)
Therapy for couples and individuals in-person in Wayzata, MN and online across Minnesota.
Hi, I'm Sarah Frankfurt.
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with couples and individuals who have trouble communicating in their relationships. My goal is to help you stop painful moments of disconnection and start empowering you to make big changes.
My Journey To Becoming a Therapist
I became a therapist because I am endlessly curious about relationships, what contributes to a meaningful life, how challenges and setbacks impact people, and the best paths for growth and healing.
Honestly, I would still read the same books and listen to the same podcasts if I weren't a therapist; I feel grateful that my intellectual and personal interests intersect with my career and that following my curiosities is a part of the work I get to share with others.
I see myself as a fellow traveller with my clients. Like everyone else, I'm an imperfect person doing the best I can.
I'm committed to practicing the same skills I teach clients. Relationality is a moment-to-moment practice, and my work with clients helps me stay focused on my relational recovery in and outside the therapy office.
Through my own journey of living relationally, I can speak with experience about how beneficial it is to practice these skills and how they have transformed my life.
My life experiences led me to become the therapist I am today.
Helping People Energizes Me
Being a therapist is an honor. I love helping people become healthier, more empowered, and watching them transform their lives. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is seeing clients connect with their inner guidance, power, and ability to change. I love seeing clients learn that healing is an ongoing journey, not a destination we reach. Living more relationally is a daily practice, like brushing your teeth, meditation or exercise. Relational health isn’t something you have, it is something you actively do.
I am committed to empowering you to make big changes.
I Have A Genuine Interest In Others And Bring Clarifying And Energizing Presence To Sessions
I have an ability to:
Uncover what's under the surface
Empower and motivate others to take action
Help clients have more self compassion and be kinder to themselves
Understand the 'dance' that keeps couples stuck and teach them skills to overcome it
People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people through difficult and stressful times. My style is a balance of blunt and direct while being compassionate and kind.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
Sessions will provide you with the space to express your thoughts and feelings. In feeling safe and comfortable, you'll be able to gain clarity and be understood and heard.
It's important to me to provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and ensure that the process is collaborative. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.
As a Therapist, I Embrace The Following Philosophies
I believe that we all have inherent worth and value - no person is worth more or less than anyone else.
I believe that claiming our inherent self worth and having healthy boundaries is an essential skill.
I believe that you can be a cycle breaker - an intergenerational hero - and start new healthier patterns in your family.
I believe that our dysfunctional behaviors helped us survive our families and we can learn better ways of responding as adults.
I believe self-compassion and reparenting our younger, more reactive parts is a key to healing.
I believe we can only change our relationships if we first change ourselves.
My Professional Background
I completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Afterwards, I completed a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
I am a certified Relational Life Therapist - which is a specialized modality for helping couples and individuals to create deep and lasting change, based on the work of therapist and author Terry Real. I am passionate about helping couples and individuals have empowered and loving relationships.
I love to learn and grow and am engaged consistently in ongoing development, courses, coaching, and therapy.
